Thin Black Magenta Painting,
2005 Acrylic on aluminum, 16 x 12"

McClune received his BFA from Massachusetts College of Art, Boston in 1998. In 2003 McClune was a Prize Nominee for the I.C.A and in 1999 was the recipient of the St. Botoloph Club Foundation Grant. In 2001 he appeared in New American Paintings. Chac-Mool Gallery, Los Angeles and Charlotte Jackson Gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico Fe also represent McClune.

Using metal blades of varying sizes, McClune pulls pigmented acrylic medium downwards over a flat aluminum support. The paintings which are devoid of narrative and figuration develop their own personalities as each separate color develops on it's aluminum support. The paintings generally consist of three to five layers of translucent acrylic glazes, whose complexity come together to create an individual color. By finely tuning a mixture of glossy and matte surfaces and combining this with the reflective nature of the aluminum McClune is able let the viewer become seduced by surface and the simple beauty of color.
